1. HTC Sense
The HTC Sense UI brings a lot of Sense and perfection to Android. The weather widget with animation on each phone lock and unlock, live wallpaper, HTC Made widgets are sure eye catchers. If there’s one manufacturer that’s customised Android to almost perfection its HTC then. Reason why even Google thinks that they can , so joint hands with HTC and brought out their first phone yes, “ The Nexus One ” some months back. That’s another story, I love HTC Sense UI .
2. Performance
A friggin 1ghz processor doesn’t go for a waste. The phone is FAST! If your device is snappy, and handles tasks like what you’d expect and multitask and play rich multimedia content and handle services etc.. those load goes to the processor. Also you might have checked out loads of Desire demo and tv ads where everything is fluid and instant snappy, even when the real world performance is way too far from it. Well, the HTC Desire works just like what you’ve seen in ad. All credits goes to the processor and OS customization. I love it.
3. Design and Quality
One of the best phone manufacturer in market who knows the mix better. Top DOG in this game. The Quality of materials used for the desire is excellent. The backcover gives that extra bit of grip, you’ll not fear dropping the phone. The rounded shape at the top is so much nicer, and the device feels good in hand. Also the device is great for web browsing, the on-screen keypad estate is used up neatly ( Yet nothing can replace hw QWERTY keypad). Mainly the 3.7inch AMOLED Screen is stunning (Black looks real black!).
4. Hardware Buttons
This might be my personal preference, as some might like the touchsensitive buttons, but having a hardware button has its own advantage. You’ll definitely feel good, like the real keys give good register , and with touch sensitive keys you notice that though the contact is made sometimes it fails to register action. Also optical trackpad is good, but i would have preferred the Optical trackball because they are more comfortable while clicking pics as HTC Desire doesn’t have a dedicated camera button.
5. Android OS and HTC’s Customization
Sure android App market is growing rapidly, also with this high end hardware choosing an OS like Android is a smart move, because of simple fact that Android gives good customization features. The Social Networking Integration is excellent! Also phone automatically lowers the ringer volume as soon as the phone is picked up. HTC Sense UI. Thanks to HTC again. Lot of impressive customizations done by them. This phone can play divx videos, record 720p videos, has apps for almost anything. I have to say HTC has brilliantly improvised the opportunities which Android platform has given. Also i gotta tell about this feature ofcourse, in case of any app crash , i get an alert as to report ie.. give comments to developer as what went wrong, what can be improved etc.. That’s really cool. Kudos to Google Good job fellas.
DISLIKES
1. Camera
To put it simple, HTC’s 5mp camera sucks. It makes the whole product very mediocre. Its take good daylight landscape shots. Also it does 720p video recording which is good, but not best again. But camera as a whole feature is not impressive at all. Also i love taking close up shots and guess what “ U need hell lot of patience to get those close ups right”. Also what i exactly miss is a dedicated camera key. Finally Android needs lot of work to be done in the camera department. And HTC must show some real interest in them, AS MANY USERS CARE FOR HAVING ONE GREAT SMARTPHONE! And it includes having an outstanding camera.
2. Battery
This too is one major matter of concern, the phone with heavy usage like WiFi, Live Wallpaper, Music, Web, around half a dozen of apps running in bg lasts only for 8-10 hours, that’s not even a day. A smartphone which can’t run a day on full charge is not smart at all. Also Android in house has a Battery Usage indicator, shows up which app is using most of the battery, but it doesn’t help to save battery in a BIG way. Though installing power saver apps, reducing the brightness and disabling the Background sync saves battery upto an extent, with all these almost disabled you can’t enjoy the phone to the fullest (U know what i mean).
3. Phone Memory
This is the buggiest thing i’ve come across, as almost all apps out their in Android market forces its self to be installed on phone and not on memory card. Very few apps can be moved to SD card and that is possible only with Android 2.2 or higher version. Its not the app alone that takes up all the space, its Mail, and messages and apps setting also takes up phone memory. There’s an app called App2SD which helps me move apps to SD, but not all apps can be moved(Though rooting the phone helps me to move almost all apps to SD). Out of box customizability is what i miss. I must control the phone and not the reverse.
4. Multitasking
Multitasking is like the reason why i buy Smartphones, else i would sure pick up an S40 phone. Android doesn’t please me with its multitasking. Android doesn’t fail to manage all the apps , but it does the job pretty well. Switching between apps is fine. But some apps when switched back to starts up freshly instead of resuming from the place where it was previously at. Also the inbuilt multitasker shows up only 8 recently used apps, and that is not what true multitasking is all about. Also some apps though forcefully killed comes back to life automatically (Not talking about apps that has BG notification enabled). Ironic but true. Kinda sucks if u can’t control your phone.
5. Need For App
What i want from a smartphone is out of box solution. Android or iOS for that matter forces you to have a dozen of apps to get the job done. For instance i can’t create an EQ nor create my own profile, have a file manager, etc. Like everyone these days say, there’s an app for everything. Point is i need phone to do most basic features out of box. Also i know that Android is growing at a stable rate, and soon it’ll be made a perfect Mobile OS.
